Fudds Saskatoon Is Committed To Waste Diversion

Fudds Saskatoon Is Committed To Waste Diversion Fuddruckers is proud to announce the implementation of the Loraas Organics Program. Utilizing Loraas Organics bins at Fudds Saskatoon is an important step in our commitment to fostering a healthier community.

Through the Loraas Organics program, Fudds Saskatoon has been able to divert food waste materials from the landfill, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. When organic materials decompose at a landfill methane gas is produced, which is one of the greatest contributors to global warming. The Loraas Organics Program enables organic waste to be processed and turned into high-grade compost to naturally enhance soil. With the help of the Loraas Organics program, we at Fudds are able to do our part in lowering GHG emissions, by diverting waste from the landfill, and turning food waste into usable form – compost.

Since the implementation of Loraas Organics program, Fudds Saskatoon has been able to divert a substantial amount of waste from ending up at the landfill.

Up until the end of May, Fudds Saskatoon had 3 – 65-gallon organic carts emptied weekly, and a 6-yard waste container that was emptied 4 times/week.
As of June 1st, Fudds Saskatoon has been utilizing 7 – 95-gallon organic carts, reducing their waste to only a 4-yard waste container emptied 2 times/week.

Wow, what a difference the Loraas Organics program has made in furthering our commitment to waste diversion at Fudds Saskatoon!

Fuddruckers Family Restaurant in Saskatoon still holds true to our simple recipe and values. This all came with our decades of experience being Saskatoon’s favourite family restaurant! One of the biggest factors in our ongoing success is our wonderful, loyal staff. What better content for our blog than to hear their stories. Perhaps we can even get some inside tips on their favorite menu items at Fuddruckers! In our first ‘Meet the Fudds Team’ post we introduce you to Jodie.

Q: What is your position at Fuddruckers?
A: General Manager of Fuddruckers

Q: How long have you been working at Fuddruckers?
A: I started in May of 1999 as a baker. I knew someone that worked there and she told me to apply. I got the job. I planned to stay a year – HA!

Q: What are some moments that stand out to you?
A: On my first day, the owner (Peter Golf) came up to me and introduced himself. From that day forward he always went out of his way to say hello when he came in. That left an impression on me. He didn’t have to do that but he did. My two previous jobs had been for large grocery store chains and there they didn’t care a whole lot about anyone, we were just a cog in a big wheel. It felt good to be recognized.

Q: How did you end up as General Manager?
A: A year after I started there was a change in management and I moved up. I worked as an assistant manager under Doug the previous general manager for 9 years and he left shortly after Peter passed away. I then took on the role of general manager. At the time I was worried about what would become of Fudds, who would take over as Peter’s death was so sudden. Thankfully Sabrina and Graham took over, with Myriam in the background.

It’s been great. They are great people. They really care about the staff, not just the business. I truly believe they are the best bosses. They let me run the restaurant like it is mine! They are very supportive and help me. We all have different strengths so we work well together. Graham is my direct contact and his enthusiasm motivates me to try to be better at my job every day. Not all days are perfect but after a quick chat I’m ready to go again.

Q: What’s the favourite part of your job?
A: I love our guests. They are the best part of my day. Often I go from table to table just catching up with everyone (and not working – oops). Many of them feel like family. There are many that have been coming since (and likely before) I started.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share?
A: The other half of my story is that my husband Ed works at Fudds too. Around the time that I moved into management Peter who had met Ed a few times, asked him to do some maintenance work in the restaurant. Ed is a guy that can fix anything. Shortly after that, the butcher position opened up and he became the full-time butcher/maintenance man. So over the past 18 years, he has made a few million burgers (I think at least that many) and kept the Fuddruckers machine running smoothly! He has been the glue that has held the building together. Whenever there is a problem with something the staff know to go find Ed.

Q: How is it working with your spouse?
A: Fudds has been good for us. Most people don’t understand how we can work together but it works well for us. The upsides are we have our days off together, there is no problem trying to get time off together, we only have to drive one vehicle to work and at the Christmas party, we both know everyone! So it’s a win-win!

Customer Spotlight: Fudds Regulars -April 2019

At our first ‘Fudds Regulars’ table is Darryl & Cathy Barclay, along with their friends Gerry & Jerri. The group graciously agreed to answer our questions and they are the stars for the first ‘Fudds Regulars’ spotlight series.

Q: How long have you been coming to Fuddruckers?
A: Darryl and Cathy – We were at Fuddrucker on opening day. We have been coming to Fuddruckers for breakfast for 13 years.

Q: What is about Fuddruckers that keeps you coming back?
A: Darryl and Cathy: We love the consistency and quality of the food, it’s the best! Also, we have to give kudos to the restaurant staff who keep the place very clean and tidy. The staff end up becoming friends and we have built a relationship with them. The prices are very reasonable and hardly have changed. We love to bring the grandchildren to Fuddruckers, every time they are in town they ask to come to Fudds

A: Gerry and Jerri: We love that it is a great meeting place for groups of people. We appreciate that you let us put tables together as we need from friends coming and going. It’s a social environment, very relaxed, pleasant and clean.

Why is March 14th Fuddruckers Annual Pie Day?

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th around the world. Pi (as in the Greek letter π) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day is an annual opportunity for math enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi, talk to their friends about math, and to eat Pie.
Why pies? Well, for starters all of our delicious Fuddruckers pies are most definitely circular shaped!

We also offer delicious salads, fries, milkshakes, & pies –our menu has something for everyone, including those with gluten intolerance. In January we celebrate Fuddruckers 33rd Anniversary, as always we have our Fuddruckers Kids Eat Free Event, this year we wanted to share more about our history and Fuddruckers founder, Peter Golf.

Fuddruckers 33rd Anniversary

Fuddruckers opened on January 24th, 1986, however before that, in the late 1950’s, Peter Golf purchased, what is now, the Family Fun Centre, with a dream to build his own restaurant and pursue his personal passion to provide exceptional, stand out service!

The Nite Hawk restaurant, purchased with the property, was eventually replaced by the Dog’n Suds drive-in: a popular hang out to eat, socialize and show off automobiles. In 1961 the Putt n Bounce was built. In 1986 Fuddruckers was introduced to the city and has been a landmark restaurant and experience since! The final addition, Ruckers, was created to compliment the entire Fun Centre experience.

Let’s share a little bit about the man behind the legacy that is Fuddruckers in Saskatoon.

Peter Golf’s Spirit of Entrepreneurship- Fuddruckers 33rd Anniversary

Peter Golf was born February 22, 1931, in a small Greek village in the Peloponnese. One of seven children, he was primarily raised by his mother as his father was unable to travel back to Greece (from Saskatoon) due to the start of World War II.

In these years of conflict, Peter experienced life-changing events; scarcity of food, concern for his and his family’s physical wellbeing and an uncertain future. Fortunate to endure these times, he grew from the hardship and began his own career as a young entrepreneur.
In 1945, the end of WWII, at 14 years of age, Peter emigrated to Saskatoon where he joined his father in their family business, Golf’s Chocolate Shop and Diner on Second Avenue.

2010 marked the 100 year anniversary for the Golf family’s entrepreneurial presence in Saskatoon. In fact, it is said that his father, Gust Golf, introduced ice cream to the city.
Over the years Peter ventured out on his own and began building his own legacy. He operated with the highest values and ethics with the belief to unite and empower people for great accomplishments. What made him a dynamic, successful businessman was his insatiable appetite for knowledge. In his eyes, there was a life lesson with each day.

His competitors were his friends, and he was notorious for his willingness to share his own insights and visions of what led to his own success, or those that he had observed. In his 64 years as a businessman in Saskatoon and Regina, Peter owned and operated The Zebra Club, Night Hawk, Dog’n Suds, Golf’s Steak House (Regina), Bartleby’s, Bonzini’s, The Putt’n Bounce, Fuddruckers, Ruckers, and Golf’s Car Wash, to name a few. The creation of jobs and opportunities for the people of Saskatchewan was his way to give back and share or thank this beautiful country for its generosity. He always reflected on the privilege of living and being a Saskatoonian.

Peter Gust Golf (1931-2009)

Peter passed away in January 2009. The reaction throughout the business community was an indicator of his powerful personality and presence, especially to those who chose to stop and listen to what he had to say. His achievements are still visible (and thriving) in those companies that continue to operate to this day.

The success of Fuddruckers and the fun centre since dad died is largely due to the commitment and stick-to-it-tive-ness of a group of people who worked along side him for a number of years. Without them, it’s hard to know what would have become of his legacy. One thing that is clear though, is dad’s work ethic and philosophy lives on in both his family and those who felt like or have become family.

Welcome to Fuddrucker Saskatoon’s New Website!

Fuddruckers Saskatoon serves the World’s Greatest Burgers handmade daily on freshly baked buns with a build your own produce bar. That’s right… a build your own produce bar with tons of fresh toppings like crispy lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and all the condiments your heart desires.
We decided it was time to do a website refresh to better serve our customers and have an updated online presence. We want our customers to see all the delicious menu options we have because we are more than just burgers.

Spring is officially here at Fuddruckers!

Every year we anxiously await the opening of Saskatoon’s outdoor Fuddruckers Family Fun Centre – The Rock Climbing Wall, Grand Slam Batting Cages, & of course, Putt ‘n’ Bounce!
This year with a slow start to spring, we are happy to finally say now that the snow and cold weather is gone, we are open for business.
We know how long you’ve waited for spring to come so now that it’s here, come take advantage of the weather with some good family and friend fun.

Fuddruckers Family Fun Centre Hours:

Our outdoor fun centre is open 10am – 11pm 7 days a week weather permitting. So, come down and try Saskatoon’s nicest outdoor mini golf course Putt N’ Bounce, or if you’re a thrill seeker, The Rock Climbing Wall is perfect for you! Athletes and aspiring athletes like Grand Slam Batting Cages for the chance to test their skills.

If you’re interested in one of our delicious burgers (The World’s Greatest Burgers) and our fresh toppings, then we will bring our fresh toppings bar to you for a build your own burger experience wherever you are. Our on site butcher prepares the best burgers and our bakery bakes those buns daily.
